Since its creation, La Nuit des Chimères has become one of the most unmissable events of the Le Mans summer. Each year between July and August, the Plantagenet city is transformed at nightfall: its Gallo-Roman ramparts, Saint-Julien Cathedral, and medieval alleyways become the canvas for spectacular light projections.

What You'll Experience

The trail runs entirely on foot through the old town. Visitors wander freely from one scene to the next, guided by sound and light creations. Highlights include:

Dates and Times

La Nuit des Chimères typically runs from July through late August, Thursday to Sunday. Projections begin at nightfall (around 10 PM in summer) and last until approximately midnight.

Getting There from Our Place

Our house is in Ruaudin, about 15 minutes by car from the old town. Parking is available near the Plantagenet City. On weekend evenings, we recommend arriving by 9:30 PM to soak in the atmosphere before the crowds peak.

The event is completely free and open access. No booking required.

1. Wear comfortable shoes — the trail covers about 2 km on cobblestones.
2. Bring a light jacket — evenings near the ramparts can be cool.
3. Go on a Thursday if you prefer smaller crowds — weekends get busy.
4. Bring a camera — the illuminated façades are stunning, especially the cathedral.
5. Pair it with dinner on a terrace in the old town before the show — several restaurants stay open late.
